OK, so I’ve had a lot of speculation of these Wii Remote straps breaking. I’ve logged many hours of Wii playing and have had no problems with the remote flying out of my hand. I always keep the strap cinched down on my wrist and keep a firm grip on the remote.
Well, last might I had a friend over and we were playing the Wii Sports Bowling game. It was his last bowl of the 10th frame and the score was close. I stood about 3 feet to the left of him. He took his last bowl and next thing I know the remote goes flying by my head, hits the ceiling, flies behind us and crashes to the kitchen floor. The battery cover popped off and the batteries flew out. Needless to say, he was a bit shocked and definitely apologetic.
In an after action analysis of the event, he said that he had gotten a bit excited and let go of the remote. He DID have the strap secured to his wrist when the strap broke.

The Wii Remote appears to still be working. There are no visible marks on the remote.
They appear to be pretty tough little remotes. Thank goodness considering they are about $50.00.
